Nahum Boyd Porter was born on February 1, 1866 in Ogden, Utah. He was the son of Nahum Bisbee Porter and Rachel Ann Murray.

He married Rosamond Mercy Green on December 6, 1888 in Logan, Utah. They were both 22 years old.
He died on May 12, 1953 in Ogden, Utah and was buried on May 15 in Preston, Idaho.
